Hundreds of electrical power transmission lines interconnect between a power station and its users. The flow of power, active and reactive, will vary on any or all of these lines by design and by circumstance. The variations are typically caused by changes in relative magnitude and phase angles of the sender and receiver voltages. The power flow in any particular line must be monitored and periodically altered to compensate for power changes occurring in interconnecting and parallel lines.
