This locking desk workstation features a see-through lift-top, built-in lock/key, 24" fluorescent light, and power strip.  This workstation prepares students to assemble, install, test, maintain, and repair electric motors. Students disassemble motor, test circuits, and replace parts in a hands-on introduction to principals of operation of electric motors. An electric motor is provided to teach electric motor principles of operation. Students perform the following tasks in repairing an electric motor: motor dis-assembly, identification of parts, changing the direction of rotation, re-assembly, and changing the capacitor.

Curriculum

Curriculum manual is provided in a three-ring binder, with pages contained in page protectors. Easy to follow step by step activities are highlighted using full color photographs. Once introduced to career related information (job description, education and training requirements, job prospects and income ranges) the student begins a "hands on" work experience, using professional tools of the trade to complete projects or tasks.  Pre and post tests, worksheets, answer sheets, and instructor's guide.

  • Removing motor from its mounting and disassemble it using hand tools
  • Testing the internal circuits and switch
  • Reassembling and testing the motor, replacing the power cord and receptacle plug on the motor
  • Reversing the motor's direction of rotation
  • Completing a wiring diagram of the motor
  • Identifying motor characteristics from the motor label
  • Completing worksheet showing parts used, costs, labor time, and charges for repair
